Selegie House, completed in 1963, represents a significant moment in Singapore's history. It reflects the PAP's commitment to modernize the city through public housing and urban renewal. It was declared open by PM Lee Kuan Yew and PAP leaders on May 31, 1963 as rental flats, and was sold to residents in January 1974.

Since 2006, Mr. Lee and his wife have been hanging Singapore flags at Selegie House. It is a tradition born from their desire to help seniors with mobility issues display their flags. Over the years, their dedication has inspired other neighbors to join them as volunteers.
