David Leightty

I am a lawyer (now semi-retired), and have practiced law for better than four and a half decades. However, this bio web page concerns my interest in poetry and the writing of poems. (For some information about my career in law see the link to "Super Lawyers," below.)

A Short Bio
As a senior in college, my original thought was to pursue a PhD in literature after graduation. But things side-tracked that idea, and instead I ended up in law school. As it happened, law was unquestionably the right career for me. Nonetheless, I continued an active interest in literature generally, and poetry in particular. My most recent event relating to poetry is the August 2023 publication of Knowing That Most Things Break (David Robert Books), a collection of my poems. The link above with that title will take you to the book’s page on the publisher’s website. In the decades between college and now, I continued to write poems and published poems in a variety of journals. In addition, I founded Scienter Press, a small press for publication of poems with certain characteristics. (Click on the Scienter Press link above, for formation regarding Scienter Press's editorial bent.) I envision another book of poems, but have no time frame for completion.
