Michael Lima holds an M.A. and a Ph.D. Candidacy in History of Latin America from the University of Toronto. Prior to transitioning to human rights advocacy Michael lectured courses in Latin American history at the universities of Toronto and Guelph. As a human rights advocate, Michael is the director of. Democratic Spaces, an NGO seeking solidarity in Canada with the cause of democracy in Cuba. Democratic Spaces works with over 30 civil society organizations in Cuba, Canada and other parts of the world. One of Democratic Spaces' main objectives is to sensitize the people of Canada with the human rights situation in Cuba. It actively seeks support from parliamentarians, civil society and freedom loving Canadians with activists in Cuba leading the peaceful struggle for a democratic and inclusive nation.
