The Aldersgate Society
What is The Aldersgate Society?
The Aldersgate Society, or the Society for short, is, in it's most basic explanation, a small group, composed of adults in their 20s and 30s, and loosely modelled after the Methodist Societies of the 1700s. However, the Aldersgate Society is not strictly Methodist, and accepts attendees from any denomination which affirms the Nicene, Apostles, and Athanasian creeds.
What does the Society Do?
The Society meets on a weekly basis for prayer and fellowship, based loosely on the rules of the Methodist Societies, which can be found below. The prayer portion of our meetings is structured after the Order for Compline, found the 1979 Book of Common Prayer, as authorized by the Episcopal Church. You can find a link to an online version of compline below.
Meeting Details
Beginning 2/19/2026, we will be meeting in the Parish Hall (the large brick building next to West Gale Street) of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Edenton, located at 101 West Gale Street. Please see the Google Map directions below.
When you arrive, look for the white door on Gale Street with the white St. Paul's Episcopal Sign in front.

Our Commitments
We meet weekly. We’ll gather at least once every week to share and pray together.
We show up on time. Unless something serious comes up, we’ll be punctual.
We start on time. Whoever’s there when the hour arrives will start the meeting with singing or prayer.
We share honestly. Each of us will take turns talking openly about how our soul is doing—what sins we’ve struggled with (in thought, word, or action) and what temptations we’ve faced since our last meeting.
We pray for each other. We’ll close every meeting with prayer that speaks to each person’s needs.
We help each other go deeper. One person will begin by sharing first, and then ask the others thoughtful, honest questions about their spiritual life, struggles, and temptations.
