Biography
James Song is a multidisciplinary artist based in Berlin, Germany. Born in 1996 in Bath, England, to Chinese immigrant parents, Song initially pursued a career in finance before fully immersing in the art world. His diverse practice is driven by an obsession with celebrating the energies of others and exploring the tension technology brings to our interpersonal relationships. It encompasses paper and canvas work, tattooing, installations, performances, and poetry.
Love Is The Closest Thing To Magic
Song’s work is fueled by a deep fascination with the human experience, celebrating vitality, emotion, and identity through energetic, intimate artworks. From early portraiture to studies of movement, his practice has always revolved around “the other,” using the human form as a source of endless inspiration. With people come relationships and love; romantic, platonic and for the self. Song describes ‘love as the closest thing we have to magic’. It is is ultimate inspiration.
In addition to exploring human energy, Song examines the tension between technology and personal connection, aiming to reclaim the authenticity of physical expression in a digital age.
His creative process is one of spontaneity, where intuition leads the way. Using ink and gestural marks, Song embraces the freedom of fluid, unrestrained artistic expression.
