KRUST
Futurism has been woven tightly into the fabric of electronic music since its inception. A common thread that connects the euphoria of the dancefloor to its outer experimental reaches. So it’s with great pleasure and anticipation that we welcome @dj_krust to play live at Bleep43’s next deep listening session. A relentless experimentalist, he carries one of the most distinctive voices in jungle, no mean feat in a genre defined by innovation and populated by iconoclasts. There when the style was forged, not to mention a notable career beforehand, Krust remains a huge influence on countless other musicians, yet always immediately recognisable for his distinctive approach. We can’t wait to experience the multichannel live performance he has created specifically for the vaults of Jacksons Lane and an audience ready to travel the spaceways.
JO JOHNSON
Persuading machines to transmit the deeper nuances of human feelings has been a skill accessible to a select few musicians. Jo Johnson has claimed her place in that set with a catalogue of releases and performances that seem to directly connect with our most core emotions. Achieved using the most elegant and minimal of flourishes, her restraint is perhaps the key to her abilities.
One of the very earliest members of our collective and a driving force in it, we’re overjoyed to see her return to her home turf with her first live performance with us in a number of years.
MATERIAL OBJECT
Psychedelic music takes many forms, from the demure and celestial to the lurid and profane. Capturing its essence remains elusive, but Material Object succeeds in forming an immediate and direct connection to the unmistakable feeling of hyperreality that will be familiar to many. Creating tracks at once mystifying and epic, yet intimate, his ability to lead us into strange variants of reality is unparalleled. With releases on Editions Mego and Pete Namlook’s Fax label, as well as extensive collaborations with Uwe Schmidt and Namlook himself, we’re very pleased to present his debut live performance in the UK.
Tony Child and Dan Bean (Transcendence Orchestra) released Colour by Material Object on their label Old Technology in April. These six fragile, yet powerful, pieces were created using a single synthesiser and “driven live in every which way”.
ALI WADE
The Observatory - Ali Wade
We will once again be in Ali’s capable hands to create that all important continuous flow of music between our live guests on this occasion. As ever, we hope you will be able to achieve full immersion in the music throughout this event, and we can think of few DJs more adept at making that possible.
If you’d like to lie down during the event there will be a number of mats available, but we’d also encourage you to bring your own mats and cushions so that you can be as comfortable as possible.
Jacksons Lane is a fully wheelchair accessible venue and includes a cafe that will be serving food and drinks. Please do not bring your own drinks.
We’ll have merchandise for sale during the event, including releases from our guest artists, Bleep43 crew, including Jo Johnson, Plant43 and Bea Brennan, and releases on Frequency Domain and its sub labels.
Live at Bleep43
About us
Bleep43 is a collective of artists, DJs and writers based in London, Kent and Berlin. The idea sprang from a collaboration between Emile Facey (Plant43) and Toby Frith (known as Bleep) but quickly grew to include Dan Bean (The Transcendence Orchestra), Bea Brennan (Old Technology), Jo Johnson (Further, Mysteries of the Deep), Ken Odeluga and Anya Stang. In 2019 Ali Wade (Frequency Domain) and Stelios Bouboukis joined the crew.
MIXES
Supporting electronic music since 2002
Bleep43 is committed to showcasing the best in electronic music. Our first events were held at Shoreditch’s notorious Public Life – a converted Victorian lavatory – where Dan Bell and Mike Grant played alongside local DJs and live artists. In 2006 we moved to Corsica Studios where Surgeon was a regular guest and Donato Dozzy, Urban Tribe, Convextion, Annie Hall and Hieroglyphic Being all played their UK debuts.
Since 2015 we've curated a series of unique, deep listening events where the aim is total immersion in sound. A space where it’s possible to move beyond the day to day and travel far into distant worlds of music. These special events began with a series of AV collaborative performances by Anthony Child (Surgeon) and Ali Wade and have included UK debuts by Sarah Davachi, Jonathan Fitoussi and Bana Haffar and The Transcendence Orchestra’s first ever show.
