Bren West

Bren, born and raised in a diverse South Africa in 1977, has always been immersed in art and design. A creative director in the branding and design space, she pursued her passion for fine art and design simultaneously studying various fine art disciplines. Responding to the design industry’s need to attach meaning to every color, and with the influence of studies in film photography during her formative design years, Bren began creating works in charcoal, graphite and ink, devoid of color, focusing instead on the interplay of light and shadow, moving towards grainy, high-contrast imagery. A departure from her earlier colorful illustrative work. Stripping away the unnecessary, the medium speaks through bold mark-making, subject, and composition. It is expressive and instantaneous. Currently resides in Chapel Hill, NC. USA
