Jonathan Robert Bucci

is a Pittsburgh-based designer, educator, technologist, and business owner. After earning a degree in theatre from Point Park University, he started his career as a Stage Manager for theatre and dance. He spent nearly a decade designing & installing lighting, audio, and video systems with Integrated Theater Systems / StoweNash Associates where he was their Director of Education (ITS) and Production Consultant (SNA). During his years designing theatres and venues he continued to hone his skills at lighting design, audio engineering, sound design, cinema, and broadcast. In 2020 he founded Jonathan Bucci Productions, LLC and the company became his full time focus in 2022.

Jonathan Bucci Productions was a dream of Jonathan's for a long time. As a passionate educator and worker advocate, he always dreamed of leading his own crew. While working with students, educators, and mentees he built up a small cadre of resident design gigs every year while at ITS & SNA. He spent his "vacations" working with high school students in West Virginia, where theatre was used to heal and connect with kids who often needed an outlet. He founded the company two months before the COVID-19 pandemic. Undeterred, he used his downtime to dust off his 15 year old broadcast skills. As the lockdown lifted, he cut his livestream, cinema, and eventually his hybrid event teeth working with arts organizations who were trying to survive the pandemic. In 2022, he departed his job to make JBP his full time work. Shortly thereafter he partnered with Grove City College to supervise their technical production and develop a new technician workforce pipeline.

As JBP grew, it partnered closely with two firms (in addition to ITS & SNA). Esc by Design is a production fabrication and show control company led by Robert Cook (aka Science Robb). BPCFG, led by Broughton Ganaway, specializes in Christian Worship Production and Design. As BPCFG began to find holes in the available controls hardware for churches and other venues to add open architecture IO devices, Broughton came to Jonathan lamenting the gap. Jonathan and Robb were brainstorming solutions one night. Jonathan realized that he could absolutely build, program, and manufacturer housings for these IO devices right at the JBP shop. Thus, Grapefruit IO was born as a division of JBP! Grapefruit IO has multiple pieces of hardware in alpha and beta testing as of Q1 2023.

In 2015 Jonathan and Josh Parise founded Pittsburgh Sword Fighters LLC and their brand Broken Plow Western Martial Arts. Jonathan has been the program director of the Italian Rapier & Sidesword program since they added it in 2018.
