Learn how to think, plan and create your sculpture starting with a rough pieced marble and basic hand tools, and hopefully take a finished sculpture home. All participants will be guided individually according to their level and needs and of course their sculptures. THE COURSE INCLUDES Teaching Art and stone sculpting techniques. Max 15 kg marble piece (MichelAngelo type) or 6kg soft Italian alabaster. Use of hand tools: a sculpting hammer, chisels, rasps, sandpaper extra. Use of studio and its facilities. Once a day we will have art lessons about: How to think in 3D - that will help the brain to see through the solid material. Explaining the meaning of the structure and composition as a starting point for planning or creating a sculpture. Choosing a stone and roughing it out, and all steps until the finishing of the sculpture. Methods of creating abstract forms and how this could become the structure for a figurative sculpture.

Alnassar is an eclectic artist who works with wood, bronze, and of course marble. His pieces reflect his experience as a migrant, coming from Syria to Europe, which harbours countless stories and images, encounters between people, different cultures and societies. Alnassar was born in Damascus, in a family with a great artistic tradition. With a degree in Fine Arts from Damascus, Syria (1997) and from the Accademia di Belle Arti de Carrare, Italy (2006), Alnassar has since 1999, chosen to live and develop his work nestled at the base of Michelangelo’s marble quarries. For the last 25 years Alnassar has been teaching art and in particular marble carving methods and techniques, sharing his vast knowledge with students that come from all walks of life and parts of the world to attend his intensive sculpture courses in Switzerland and Norway, Sydney, Byron bay, in his Studio in Carrara, Italy, and now in Bowral. www.alnassar.it alnassarsculpt@gmail.com @alnassarsculpture
