Concentio Duo

Rediscovering early music

Concentio
Concentio is an early music ensemble established in 2022, with a focus on pre-19th Century repertoire performed on period instruments. Bar Zimmermann (Baroque oboe, recorders) and Weronika Paine (harpsichord, organ, medieval keyboards) both studied at the prestigious Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Switzerland, and have a mutual passion for exploring creativity and engagement through their performance. Due to their both being specialised in several instruments, they are able to call upon a variety of instrumental combinations, broadening the possibilities of expression, sound, technique, and colour within a single program. Inspired by the understanding of art as being the manifestation, reflection, and inspiration of human experience, the musicians focus on combining the newest musicological research with their own musical expression, and enjoy the challenge of striking up interactivity and a dialogue with their audiences.
why early music?
Bar and Weronika’s specialisation in early music allows them to not only bring forth the emotional aspects of this repertoire, but also to consider and understand the intellectual underpinnings behind it, and to present this repertoire in a manner that allows modern audiences to likewise engage with the music as audiences of the time could have done. Their extensive knowledge of ‘Historically Informed Practice’ and its tenets allows them to uncover the vast expressive potential of the music in their program, and to convey feelings of hope and passion through their art. It is Concentio’s belief that contact with art and beauty improves the quality of life - and the ensemble is always first and foremost concerned with how to provide just that to their audiences.
