Fabiola Monteiro

Writer & Editor

Over the last decade, I have worked as a travel writer for globally renowned publications, conceptualised and edited a Webby Award–winning magazine about design and architecture in India, curated engaging offline gatherings, and been a part of a few incredible editorial teams. Through my work, I have been fortunate to nurture my interest in nature and cities, research on creative solutions for our climate crisis, and think more deeply about sustainable development. From October 2018 to March 2025, I worked as Editorial Director at Paper Planes, both at its eponymous magazine and its creative agency. In 2023, the magazine won the prestigious Webby People’s Choice Award — the “Oscars of the Internet” for Best Magazine. Previous winners of this specific category have included Vanity Fair and The New Yorker. I currently lead Narrative & Experience at Offline, a private community of members comprising the top 10% of India’s tech founders and CXOs. In 2024, I moved to Bangalore, where I now live with my partner — our first time setting up home in a city that isn’t in Bombay.
Links to some of my writing are below, in no particular order. A quick note! Big Little Things and How About Now are both magazines conceptualised and produced by The Paper Planes Agency (for UnLtd India and the WorthWhile Future Foundation respectively); and links to the National Geographic Traveller India website are courtesy the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine as the publication in India is now shuttered.
Recent Brand Work
I have worked on several brand communications projects during my time at The Paper Planes Agency. Some of this work has included creative direction for the kit for a WPL cricket team, Instagram strategy for a Japanese chocolate brand retailing in India, conceptualising and editing magazines (both print and digital) for non-profits and start-ups, and script-writing for brand films for a bespoke menswear brand.
