James was born in 1994 in KwaZulu Natal, South Africa. He was raised on a private nature reserve and was educated at home. Being privately tutored all his life until school leaving age presented opportunities to develop skills in entrepreneurship, web design, publishing, distribution, videography, and research. James worked in the family ministry from age 16, while focussing on and developing his skills in videography which resulted in the creation of approximately 600 videos for the Oikos Family Ministries website and online store, and his own YouTube channel called That Board Game Show.
