Chef Jazmin Johnson's creative practice lives at the intersection of culinary art, storytelling, and community engagement. Rooted in her Honduran heritage, her work explores ancestral and diasporic foodways—drawing inspiration from her global travels, layered histories and native healing traditions. As a culinary educator and community organizer, she believes food is more than sustenance—it’s a vessel for cultural expression, memory, and social change. Since founding a community fridge in East Harlem in 2020, she has shown how food can be a powerful tool for activism and mutual aid—filling fridges and residents alike, with foods that not only fuel, but heal. She leads a Teaching Kitchen in NY, designing an interdisciplinary culinary programming for students that celebrates diverse cultures through nutrition forward foods. Beyond the classroom, her pop-ups are an opportunity for each meal to tell a story, spark dialogue, and feed far more than appetite alone.
