Literacy practices are our medium for telepathy, time travel and navigating multiple universes (each other's perspectives) - online literacy starts with hypertext, language freed from classical physical constraints
"if money can be money & communication be communication …then 'the market' can be 'the market'" *Ted Nelson links* The hermeneutically marginalized voice of the intertwingularity (coined "hypertext" in 1965 [& later "micropayment"]). Voice in the wilderness (the exact problem he's told us how to solve).
example thoughts from Ted give context
“I see humanity as unknowing prisoners in systems of invisible walls, specific conventions created by hidden techies, sometimes long ago and never questioned since by anybody.” {Possiplex reading} "the word 'technology' has an agenda for your behavior: usually what is being referred to as "technology" is something that somebody wants you to submit to" Hypertext is not technology but Literature. Literature is the information that we package and safe (first just books and newspapes and magazines, now movies and recordings and CD-ROMs and what-all). The design of tomorrow's literature determines what the human race will be able to keep track of and understand. These are not issues to be left to "technologists".
*structuring hypertext*
if the native interface of text online is the "side by side display of visually connected documents" - what's the aggregate structure that arises from these interactions? Here's some food for thought (please send me suggestions/ feedback!) “Regardless of what a progressive group’s first issue of importance is, its second issue should be media and communication, because so long as the media are in corporate hands, the task of social change will be vastly more difficult, if not impossible across the board.” - Robert McChesney {further elaboration forthcoming}
