Juan Francisco González
Is a filmmaker who studied at the EICTV in Cuba and the Ateliers Varan in France. His films are characterised by their use of film archives to re-examine the past, reflecting on the present and combining documentary and fictional elements to create narratives. His work explores the environment, the history of workers and indigenous communities, and the changes that have occurred over time. In 2020, he completed the short film Maria K, which premiered in the "Première Fenêtre" competition at the Cinéma du Réel festival. The film received the 'Public Award' and a 'Special Mention from the Jury' at FIDOCS. His short film Fantasmagoria (2022) was selected for Doclisboa and over 70 other festivals worldwide, winning multiple awards. He has been selected for a residency at La Casa Velázquez in Madrid for 2024–25.
