K-9 Cat
indie music project

K-9 Cat is more a reaction than a project—a deliberate break from the polished predictability of modern music culture. Born in 2018 when singer-songwriter Chris Erwin moved to Nashville, TN, the lo-fi indie-rock experiment reflects a yearning for imperfection. In a city built on precision-crafted hits, Erwin leaned into unconventional recording techniques and an unvarnished sound to let long-simmering songs breathe.
Before K-9 Cat, Erwin fronted Orlando’s indie-rock band Captains of April, honing his ability to craft compelling melodies. While the band shaped his early artistic voice, K-9 Cat became a personal reinvention—a more intimate, unfiltered creative space.
This isn’t about finding a scene—it’s the opposite. Erwin’s music never quite fit in Nashville, and perhaps that’s the point. In 2021, K-9 Cat found a new home in the Azores Islands, Portugal—a place as untamed as the music. The volcanic landscapes and windswept shores mirror the rough edges of Erwin’s compositions, grounding them in raw authenticity.
In an age of algorithm-driven tastes, K-9 Cat feels subversive in its honesty. It doesn’t beg for attention but offers connection to those willing to lean in. For Erwin, success isn’t ubiquity but resonance—a belief that music doesn’t need to conform, only to be honest enough to find its audience.
