Malcolm S. Johnson
Geographer, ecologist, eel advocate
As Huon Valley Council's Climate Change Officer, I am dedicated to developing, communicating, and envisioning a climate change-resilient future for all residents of the Huon Valley, including both humans and non-humans.
My ongoing research involves community relationships with climate change risks and landscape values. My professional background includes coastal resources, marine protected areas, and watershed management.
Searching for the eel song
I am actively collaborating on a project about the freshwater eels of Tasmania. Working with a local band, Where Water Meets, they are developing a school show based on the science of the eel life cycle, their unique physiology, and the more-than-eel histories of Tasmania.
