The Scientist Who Became a Storyteller
Olive Brown didn't set out to be a filmmaker. She was a microbiologist, studying the invisible systems that keep us alive. But she had the same question: What if?
What if climate collapse forced impossible choices? What if systemic racism evolved into literal law? What if the future looked like our present, only worse?
In 2018, Olive started writing. In 2019, she moved to Los Angeles. In 2020, she made her first film.
Since then, she's created 5 short films, 1 feature film, and 2 mini-series episodes—often as writer, director, producer, and editor. Her work centers Black experiences within speculative fiction, weaving themes of environmental justice, systemic oppression, and survival into every frame.
She creates grounded sci-fi that doesn't look away from hard truths about power and race.
Currently in post- production on THE PASSINGS, a film about mandatory death in an overpopulated future.
Science taught her how systems work. Film lets her show what happens when they break.
