Nasimiyu Murumba (aka Simi Yuyu) is a multi-instrumentalist, improviser, dancer, educator, facilitator, and CircleSong steward.
Her latest self-produced album, “P O T I O N S,” was celebrated as a best new album on NPR’s ‘All Songs Considered’ in 2021. Her previous album, ‘Dirt. (EP)’ was heralded in Vogue, Stereogum, Afropunk, NYLON, Paper Magazine, OkayAfrica, Interview Magazine, and FADER.
In addition to her work as a solo artist, she is passionate about the healing power of communal musicmaking.
She seeks to empower others to reclaim their creativity and voices.
She has studied vocal improvisation at Bobby Mcferrin’s Circlesong School, and performance art with the Meredith Monk Foundation.
She works as a Circlesinging facilitator for Gaia Music Collective, an organization that works to connect and build community through music.
She also teaches on the faculty of Carnegie Hall’s Weill Institute, offering connective music education to families in NYC.
