A Tale of Passion and Resilience By Chus Landa In 1988, I embarked on transforming untouched land into the magical realm of the Unicorn Hotel in San Marcos La Laguna. With limited resources, I relied on local materials like stones and straw to bring my vision to life. Paddling across from San Pedro every day, with the help of local artisans, we laid the foundation for what would become my sanctuary. Though unfinished, the two-story house soon became my haven. As word spread, travelers sought refuge in the warmth of the Unicorn. But tragedy struck when a mishap sparked a devastating fire, leaving only ashes. Undeterred, I embarked on a soul-searching journey to the Bay Islands of Honduras with my two children. There, amidst tranquil shores, we found solace in crafting jewelry. Slowly but surely, we rebuilt what was lost. By 1998, the hotel stood tall once again, a testament to resilience. It was during this time that fate led me to meet the love of my life. Today, the Unicorn stands as a beacon of hope and inspiration, rebranded by my son as Unicorn Reborn in 2020. This sacred space continues to welcome wanderers seeking solace amidst the serenity of San Marcos La Laguna, weaving tales of resilience and renewal that resonate with all who find refuge within its embrace.
