José R. Ralat

José R. Ralat is the leading authority on tacos and taco culture, and their impact on American culture and foodways. He is also an expert on Mexican American culture, its regional expressions, and associated subjects. Ralat is a two-time James Beard Award Winner in food journalism. He is also the Texas Monthly taco editor, where he writes on all types of food and culture, with a specialization in Mexican cuisine. Ralat is the author of the award-winning book American Tacos: A History and Guide, now in it's second revision, is the first national survey of regional tacos in the U.S.His book has been featured in various mediums and used as part of curriculum in several schools.
